What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic health condition where your body either does not make enough insulin or can’t use the insulin as efficiently as it should to turn food into energy. There are three types of diabetes: Type 1, Type 2, and gestational. To learn more about each of these types, click here. When diabetes is not treated or controlled as it should be, it can lead to serious health problems. In the US, diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease, vision loss, and lower-limb amputations. While there isn’t a cure for diabetes, important steps you can take are maintaining a healthy weight, eating healthy food, and being physically active.
