What is the Slice of Life Coalition?

The vision for the Slice of Life Coalition of Abilene is to build a culture that supplies and promotes healthier living and wellness skills that is equitable for all community members. The core characteristics needed to create a healthier community consist of community members that have a passion for helping others live well as much as themselves. Community participation and buy-in is vital towards any physical activity growth that wishes to be sustained into future generations, as it converts participants into stakeholders. These vital community members reflect a healthy lifestyle by being active; having access to, and seeking  preventative care; being well informed; and being able to access and utilize resources such as health services, public transportation, and healthy foods.  Slice of Life of Abilene aims to build and grow long term impactful solutions that result in healthier living and wellness skills across one’s lifespan.

The focus of this document is intended to identify ways that will enable Taylor County to become more physically active. The Plan shares the goals of the National Physical Activity Plan in that it “aims to create a national culture that supports physically active lifestyles. Its ultimate purpose is to improve health, prevent disease and disability, and enhance quality of life.”

What are the Slice of Life objectives?
